There are still openings for our virtual workshop with Sylvia Schaefer, Designing With Negative Space, on Saturday, April 20 from 9 am to 12 pm. There is also a sew-in at the Oxford Community Building on Saturday, April 27 from 9 am to 3 pm.

Vice President Linda H reminded everyone of some MQG announcements and ongoing projects. QuiltCon 2025 will be held in Phoenix, while QuiltCon 2026 will be held in Raleigh. The MQG has a sew along happening called Satsuma. The Seattle MQG has an ongoing, free Block of the Month called Like, Totally. This BOM was designed by Louise Wackerman @imfeelincrafty. Linda also announced that our charity quilt from two years ago was donated to New Life Christian Church and raised $400, benefiting Rapha International, an anti-human trafficking organization.

Media Coordinator Courtney S announced that anyone who still needs their photo taken for the directory can speak to her.

Program Chair Jane G announced upcoming programs. At the May 11 meeting, Kick Out Your Inner Critic & Make It! will be presented virtually by Alex Byrnes @lixiemakesit. The June 8 program will be on Steph Skardal’s app, A Quilty Solid, by Courtney S and Cindy B. Jane also reminded everyone that QuiltFest Jacksonville will have a modern category for the first time. Registration is now open and will remain so through July 25. The show will be September 19-21.

Show and Tell

Linda T @blu24berry shared Groovin’, a 54″ x 54″ quilt. This was made from a Zen Chic pattern by Brigitte Heitland. Linda quilted this on her Bernina 153.

Linda T’s second share was Hello Spring! This quilt measures 60″ x 60″ and resulted from the Colorplay workshop with Beth S. Linda quilted this on her Bernina 153.

Linda T also shared Happy Scrappy, a 38″ x 49″ quilt she paper-pieced with half square triangles. This quilt was made with scraps left over from Hello Spring! and was also quilted on her Bernina 153.

Sharon J @seamrippersharon brought a 22″ x 19″ quilt called Words to Live By. This quilt features large letters made using the Modern ABC pattern by Sugaridoo and small letters that she cut with a Cricut and ironed on. She made this as a reminder of her 2024 phrase, “Be Present, Be Joyful, Be Adventurous.” She realized that she made the “B” wrong, but decided to “Be Joyful” that it’s finished! Sharon matchstick quilted this on her Baby Lock Chorus.

Shloe K shared a quilt that she made for her daughter to cheer her up as she struggled with some medical issues. It was longarm quilted by a friend.

Lora D @loradouglas shared Clam Toss, which measures 50″ x 50″ and was made using the 16″ Latifah Saafir Clammy ruler. It used the Zen Chic Filigree line of fabric and was longarm quilted by Kimberly H.

Lora D also shared an unnamed 50″ x 50″ quilt that she quilted herself on her Bernina 700E.

Beth S @blue_dragonfly5 shared Someplace in Surrey, a 37″ x 50″ quilt of her original design, begun in David Owen Hasting’s workshop Inspired by Architecture. Beth used the quilt as you go method and quilted it using different weight threads on a Viking domestic machine, as well as some hand big-stitch quilting. She used freezer paper for the pattern shape. Her inspirational building was located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

Bonnie B @bonniequiltsaway shared Steep Rock, measuring 48″ x 64″ and made using The Blanket Statement pattern. This quilt features a blanket backing with no batting, and Bonnie quilted it on her Janome longarm.

Serena B shared her 108″ x 108″ quilt, Which Way Do I Go? She quilted this on her Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen.

Quite a few bags resulted from Ardie W’s Personal Item Carry-On Bag workshop! Betty S, Shloe K, Donna P @donnapquilts, Beth S @blue_dragonfly5, Cindy B @cbubblesnsews, and Mary T all brought finished bags to share.
